CPR, First Aid, AED Training
There is a plan to offer a CPR, First Aid, and AED class at FUMC in the very near future—possibly December 3 / 4 or December 10 / 11. The session would be about 4 hours in length and is being presented by Dick Meyers. If you are interested in participating, please contact the church office firstumc3@frontier.com or Marty Harvey at martys.tools@yahoo.com by December 1. There is a limited number of people per session and if we have a large interest we can offer an additional session.
Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
The Annual Thanksgiving Dinner will be Sunday, November 20 beginning at 5 PM in the Social Hall. Meat, drinks, and rolls will be provided. Please bring a covered dish to share and enjoy the evening of good fellowship.
Cookbooks Are Here
The cookbooks have arrived and may be purchased for $10 each. There will be a representative at the beginning of each service with cookbooks for purchase. Money must be paid at the time the books are received. They are on a first come first served basis. During the week (Tues. thru Thurs.) books may also be purchased at the church office.
All Saints Sunday
Sunday, November 6, we will be celebrating All Saints Sunday during all the worship services. We will be remembering and celebrating loved ones who have passed away. Attendees may bring candle(s) to remember loved one(s)—one candle per loved one OR one candle for all. Everyone is invited to come for this special time, which also includes communion, which takes on additional meaning on this special day.
Pastor Appreciation Month
October is an opportunity for you to show Pastor Doug, our full-time Pastor, and Rich Ellis, our Director of Youth Ministry, how much you appreciate the amazing things they are doing for our church. A reception will be held Sunday, October 30 in the Social Hall from 12- 2:00 PM. There will be a basket at the reception for cards, gifts, gift cards, etc. that you would like to give to Pastor Doug and/or Rich. If you are unable to attend the reception, feel free to leave your gift at the church office throughout the month of October.
Halloween Outreach
Trick or Treat outreach will be Monday, October 31, 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Individually wrapped candy donations may be left at the church office until October 30. Volunteers to help on trick or treat night are welcome. Please see a member of the Fellowship Class for details.
Parenting Class
Are you a mom, dad, or guardian? Want to join some other parents on the same journey raising children in a Christian home?
FUMC Parenting Class will be meeting in the FUMC Social Hall for Sunday School, @ 9:30 (near stage) beginning August 28.
Come and find fellowship among other parents. Tell your friends and check it out! It’s fun! Morgan Freeman (for serious!) will be there talking about the genesis of God, miracles, and the origin of religion in National Geographic’s “The Story of God.”
WV Flood Victim Update
General Supplies are NOT needed at the moment but money would be very helpful to help build infrastructures.
Funds should be sent to:
West Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church, 900 Washington Street, East Charleston, WV 25301
The West Virginia Conference Foundation of the United Methodist Church is still the best direction for responding to home reconstruction and support of families devastated by the flood. Work teams will be needed in the future, but not yet. There is no infrastructure. Even groups who are self-contained with trailers, etc. would find it difficult with inadequate roads, sites, etc. Assessment teams are now working and will be letting us know when, where and what can be done. Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Panhandle is the coordinating agency for establishment and deployment of work teams.
Those interested in helping please contact, Dr. G. Edward Grove at edhfhep@gmail.com. See the church bulletin boards for ways to also help Ellicott City victims or contact the church office at 304.258.2766 Tues thru Thurs.
